Your criteria for wanting a natural, healthy and ecological home places you in a unique position that sets you apart from the world of conventional building and has lead you to EcoNest. You are about to embark on a very significant piece of work. Although building with nature is the “path less travelled” and therefore a little more challenging, your efforts will be amply rewarded with health, comfort and beauty every day that you spend in your new home. We have mentored hundreds of people through the natural homebuilding process. This is the joyful work that we do. We are here to help you too!

Johnny Weiss, Solar Technology Professional

Thoughtful, team-oriented, experienced and eminently practical…

With 40+ years in designing, reviewing, and building solar, wind, and water power systems, I am now selectively choosing special projects. I am particularly interested in solar electricity-generating projects (photovoltaics/PV) that are sustainable, green, international, and socially worthwhile. Having consulted and collaborated with teams and NGOs in more than 30 countries worldwide, and with Native American tribes, I bring supportive, environmental and ecological ethics and understanding to team efforts.  In addition to technical expertise, clients benefit from my comprehensive approach to problem solving. I engage and educate clients with the skills and knowledge needed to create and maintain successful, community-supported solar projects.

Designing Your Vision

From grocery stores with walls made of baled straw to pumice-crete and earthen plaster, each of our projects and the clients that own them are incredibly inspirational.  Each of those clients have taken risks and pushed the boundaries of building science by making bold choices.  We support those who ask questions and open their consciousness to include the vast world of choices that most mainstream projects never encounter.  Each and every one of our projects has a story to tell that inspires and educates beyond its boundaries.

The People and Earth Friendly Wood Finish

We are Heritage Natural Finishes, our business name was formerly Land Ark Northwest and we called our products Land Ark. We have all the same great finishes and excellent customer service you are used to, just under a new name! We pride ourselves in making and selling the wonderful products famous for its lovely orange smell and beautiful, lasting results. While our finishes were originally formulated for the unique needs of timber framing, they have since found a home with all types of woodworkers — everything from log homes to fine furniture, toys, shoes, counter tops and even earthen floors, earth benches and cob walls. We got into making these high quality oil finishes because WE LOVE WOOD and natural building all around! We are in love with wood of all kinds and want to celebrate it! All Heritage Oil Finishes are non-toxic, biodegradable, and sustainable. We use absolutely NO heavy metals or driers of any kind. That means that our products take longer to dry, but they penetrate deeper than other finishes because of it, which prevents problems with wrinkling due to uneven drying.
